Bankstown and Parramatta attend The Auburn Career Pathways Expo

The Career Pathways Expo was an event held at Auburn Town Hall on the 18th May, 2010 and was supported by the Auburn Employment Working Group – a sector of the ‘Partners in Employment for Refugees (PIER) Network’.

Break Thru People Solutions operated a stall at the expo through the assistance of Parramatta and Bankstown DES staff. Overall the Career Pathway Expo at Auburn was a very successful event for Break Thru, despite the ominous rain that continued to fall throughout the day.

Helena Xabregas, Jamie Duggan, and Lisa Hinwood from Break Thru’s Parramatta Office, and Sousan Hajeid, Andrew Tran, Harish Patel and Tamara Steel from Break Thru’s Bankstown Office attended this event, and worked in a close partnership to provide support and information about Break Thru’s services in an attempt to connect employment and training opportunities to jobseekers and school leavers.

Both offices took half a day each in our Exhibitor Stall, and advised attendees of the holistic services DES and JSA provide, and considered all programs available - not limiting the options to only DES.

Throughout the day, Break Thru were able to obtain 45 potential direct registrations, which are still being contacted and assisted. Many attendees, both jobseekers and social workers, also expressed interest in the organization and asked for business cards to call at a later date. Break Thru Staff also networked with many training organisations and collected information on plenty of Vocational activities suitable for our jobseekers.

The Exhibition was also a great opportunity to build on and develop new community networks and resources and develop rapport with potential employers, through the number of other stalls that were at the exhibition as well.

A great day was spent advocating for people with disabilities, spreading awareness of all the different programs BTPS offer and networking with a large amount of community organisations.
