Job help for disabled - Break Thru Featured in Blacktown Sun, March 2010

Providing job help for the disabled - Break Thru featured in Blacktown Sun Newspaper

The federal government has injected $1.2 billion into a new program aimed at helping people with disabilities find work.

The scheme was launched last week by Employment Participation Minister Mark Arbib at Break Thru People Solutions employment & training agency.

It is among about 100 providers across the country that will share in the funding provided under the government's Disability Employment Services.

Mr Arbib said the program would lead to more jobs for people with disabilities, improved choice for job seekers and employers and more innovative service delivery.

He said people with disabilities would have access to better and more individually tailored employment services now.

Break Thru People Solutions is an Australian not-for-profit organisation that provides service to people who are long term unemployed, indigenous Australians, people with a disability and those from non English speaking backgrounds.

Its CEO Ross Lewis said they had worked hard with other providers to achieve the 'uncapping' of disability employment service programs.

He said the new Disability Employment Services had created two new programs: Disability Management Service for job seekers who may not need regular, long-term support and Employment Support Service for job seekers who need long-term support to maintain their job.
